Jim Ross Talks About the 900th Raw Tonight

Jim Ross wrote a blog today on the 900th edition of Raw & some of his favorite memories:

DX…which helped launch HHH, re-invent HBK and made stars of Billy Gunn, Road Dog, and Chyna. Every one came along at the right place at the right time with the right presentation for their persona’s in a male friendly 18-34 demo. To me, this faction was as good as it gets and ranks in the same breath with the Horsemen.

I remember some great comedy…Rock ‘n Sock…Austin/Angle/McMahon…DX…among others…and I remember the head shakers. I’m not casting stones as I uttered my share of head shakers on Monday nights, too.

HBK’s farewell…it touched me and moved me to tears again even though I was in a safe environment, my home in Norman. When Shawn mentioned me in his farewell address my eyes welled with tears. That was an amazing honor for me following WM26. (I’ve always thought that going to San Antonino to speak with Shawn about ending his 4 year or so hiatus was one of my best accomplishments in WWE.)

Shawn Mention From JR’s Q&A

This is from Jim Ross’ Q&A, thanks to Amanda:

Q: Just listened to hbk’s interview with bill simmons. I agree with you that he will never wrestle again. I love that he doesn’t bash or pick at wwe now that he’s no longer in the company…

A: HBK is a class act and his Faith and family are his focus. He doesn’t need the adrenaline fix that live audiences provide. He’s happy and fulfilled. Shawn is in a very good place.

Jim Ross Mentions Shawn In Today’s Blog

Jim Ross talked about SummerSlam in today’s blog & mentioned Shawn:

Summer Slam has been one of my favorite events while I was doing broadcasting for WWE including 2005 when Shawn Michaels performance against Hulk Hogan stole the show without question. Shawn proved, again, why he is arguably the greatest in ring performer of his or perhaps any generation and is definitely in the top 2-3 all time on most ‘experts’ lists in the entire business no matter the affiliation or era.

Jim Ross Comments On Shawn’s Retirement

Molly came across this in JR’s Q&A. I love the answer JR gives.

Hi JR, Do you honestly believe that Shawn Michaels will stay retired, I ask this because I believe that Shawn will have one more match against the Undertaker. Shawn got retired by the Undertaker in 2010 and nearly had his career ended by him in 98 (not that I’m blaming Taker or anything) and surely HBK would not want to go out on a lose (twice). Thanks JR

J.R.’s Answer: I’ve said it before and I haven’t changed my mind that I feel that HBK has the best chance to stay retired since the great Jack Brisco called it quits. HBK doesn’t ‘need’ the emotional fulfillment that some one dimensional wrestlers do with his family priorities and his Christian faith and the work he does w/ his church.

Jim Ross Mentions Shawn in Blog & On Twitter

Jim Ross mentioned Shawn’s new social networking accounts in his latest blog, for those of you that are still not sure it’s him for some reason:

The real HBK is definitely on Twitter @ShawnMichaels_. He’s on Facebook, too. HBK reportedly had a great time visiting with everyone Monday in his hometown of San Antonio at Raw.

He also made a few comments on Twitter today:

Said hbk may b 1st star 2 retire & stay retired since jack brisco. He’s happy & has nothing left 2 proove. Top 2-3 all time. Why return?

I’m not qualified to say who conclusively the best wrestler ever is? Too subjective. Flair & HBK obviously on most any best ever list.

The liklihood of hbk going back on road 2 b raw gm is as probable as JR doing it. We need 2 unsaddle those 2 theories. Get someone new 4 GM.

My top five changes..its no exact science..Flair, HBK, Austin, Rock, Hulk, Taker would be right there in most conversations.

Jim Ross Talks The Morrison/HBK Comparison

Jim Ross commented on the Shawn Michaels/John Morrison comparison in his blog today:

I Tweeted @JRsBBQ that I liked John Morrison’s new beard and that I thought it made him look a little more rugged. Morrison is a gifted athlete who has ‘something’ that physically reminds me of a young HBK. One can only hope that Morrison can begin to approach the success that Shawn Michaels earned but that’s some king sized expectations. Nonetheless I think that Morrison can be a major player within WWE once his complete game comes together which simply takes time.

Jim Ross Updates Us On Shawn

Jim Ross mentioned talking to Shawn in his blog today:

Emailer…the last text I received from HBK he said he was relaxing and enjoying being a Dad and a Husband and was having a great “family summer.” HBK continues to do a significant amount of church work as well. Shawn may be the first, big time wrestling superstar to ‘retire’ from pro wrestling since Jack Brisco to stay retired. Precedent says that won’t happen but if Shawn does make a return to the ring I have to believe that it will be a very special, well timed occasion that will also be extremely logical.

Jim Ross Comments on HBK/Taker Matches

Jim Ross commented on which Shawn Michaels/Undertaker bout was his favorite in his latest blog:

I preferred the first Undertaker vs. HBK bout because, says the guy with the black hat and the even bigger ego, I got to participant. Plus, the first time “Feels like the First Time” sang Foreigner is always the most memorable or should I say usually is the most memorable.

Jim Ross Talks Bret/Shawn

Jim Ross talked about Bret/Shawn in his latest Q&A:

Q; Hi JR, I was just thinking the other day about how Bret Hart and HBK really never got to finish their feud in the ring. (In my opinion) If Bret had not gone to WCW ans Shawn had not gotten his back injury do you think that there was much left in the feud? Also I feel the intensity of the match in Montreal before the ending was incredible and has been overlooked, you were there, what was the atmosphere like? if the match had been finished as planned (run ins etc) do you think it would be talked as a great match? Or have you ever thought about it? By the way JR, i think it is incredible the way you communicate with your fans so graciously and with such effort. I dont know any other Star in the world that does this. You sir are one hell of a man. And thats the bottom line…..

A; If things had worked out differently for HBK and Bret there is no doubt that they would have been able to have had a long, productive program and likely one of the great rivalries ever in WWE or the biz in general. As good as both were in the ring it would have been hard to tire of their interactions. Today’s fans might as they seemingly tire after a couple of matches which may have to do with the talent’s skill level and the presentation of the matter.

Thanks to Molly!

Jim Ross Names His Favorite HBK Matches

Jim Ross talked about his favorite Shawn Michaels matches on his website:

Favorite Shawn Michaels matches? Too many to list but some that quickly pop into my mind are HBK vs. Taker Hell in a Cell, HBK vs. Foley, HBK vs. Austin @ WM, HBK vs. HHH when Shawn returned to WWE after about a 4 year absence, and of course the WM25 match pitting Michaels vs. the Undertaker in Houston. Yeah, I know that I’ve probably left some other obvious one’s out. Sorry.
