Superstars’ Favorite Moments
Posted by DJ on March 31st, 2009. Filed in Misc News -- Comment on this Post [1]

They may be Superstars, but they are most certainly also fans. En route to the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, the competitors of today remark about their favorite events of WrestleManias past. Which matches and moments have etched themselves in the memories of the WWE Universe’s greatest gladiators?

Chavo Guerrero

Shawn Michaels vs. Kurt Angle always stood out in my mind as a great match. Anything involving Michaels is always grade A. That match, as far as WrestleManias, sticks out for me. I’m from a wrestling family, so it wasn’t always about the pageantry. I love wrestling and that match was great wrestling. It had everything – high flying, mat wrestling, brawling. That match defines what we do in this business.”

Shawn Michaels holds a funeral for Undertaker’s undefeated WrestleMania streak; The Phenom emerged and received some Sweet Chin Music from HBK
When Shawn Michaels came to the ring, it became clear that the “funeral” announced earlier in the night was not for HBK, but rather for the undefeated WrestleMania streak of his opponent, Undertaker. Complete with a casket, roses and images of Michaels defeating The Deadman in their past encounters, the service saw HBK boast of his actions during recent weeks: Kicking Undertaker in the face and trespassing on his hollowed cemetery. The Showstopper announced that he had done all of this without enduring any retribution, and promised that the most memorable moment of the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania would be his victory over The Phenom.

Just then, the arena darkened and a gong rang out, heralding the arrival of Undertaker. When the lights came back up, The Phenom stood in the ring, but Michaels was nowhere to be seen. As The Deadman searched, HBK emerged from under the casket and once again laid Undertaker out with a superkick.

A shot aired of the hearse as Taker’s music played. A group of men lifted the castket top open to reveal Shawn Michaels lying inside. He looked at the camera and mouthed the words, “You expecting someone else?”

After the break, they replayed the footage of Michaels, only this time the production truck remembered to turn up the volume when HBK delivered his line.

Highlights aired from Smackdown of the latest Shawn Michaels and Undertaker angle… Back live, a shot aired of Shawn walking backstage as a group of men carried a casket behind him…

“I’d have to say for me, it goes to the match between Macho Man and Ricky Steamboat. I was already wrestling at that time and was a student of the game. The performance those guys put on at WrestleMania III was special. As far as [my own WrestleMania moments], the ones that I’ve had in my second run have been so enjoyable because I never thought I’d get that second chance. Everything since my return has been special since it’s all been extra.”

PW Torch Article

On PWTorch.com, there is a fan submitted article on Shawn’s promo on Friday night. It’s called Under the Microscope.

Black or white

I enjoyed the visual of Shawn Michael’s Undertaker slowly walking to the ring with his back-up Druids. It reminded me of a short-lived character back in the early part of the decade who would appear in the audience dressed in all-white. I believe it was Vic Grimes, who was briefly called “Key” in a feud with The Godfather. If I am remembering correctly, Grimes would later wrestle as one of “The Baldies” in ECW.

As for the most recent man in white, Shawn Michaels shared the opening words of The Bible by quoting Genesis, chapter one. He actually took us through the first five verses of the first chapter of Genesis before eventually breaking into classic Heartbreak Kid. If The Undertaker cares to respond, he could certainly use the same book, just a different chapter. Instead of starting at the beginning, he could go to the end and use Revelation. Although any number of verses would serve his purpose, Revelation 6:12-17 seem to fit.
